Submissions are now closed. Thanks for your feedback. We’re making some changes to our proposed constitution. We’ll be publishing the new draft in 2018.

Thank you for interest in Constitution Aotearoa NZ. The main aim of this project has been to start a conversation about New Zealand’s rules of government – who has power, how they can exercise it, how New Zealanders’ rights should be protected, and so on. We believe we have succeeded in that aim.

Since the book A Constitution for Aotearoa New Zealand was launched in September 2016 we have been taking submissions. We have so far received nearly 450 submissions.

We have also met with people in public meetings up and down the country. Altogether, we have spoken with more than 3500 people.

Submissions are now closed. We have carefully read and considered each submission we have received, along with all of the other feedback from meetings, news media, social media, and so on. As a result of this feedback, we have made some significant changes to our proposals. Above all, we have sought to streamline and simplify the proposed constitution.

In 2018 we will be publishing a new book explaining the feedback we received and setting out our new proposals. We hope this will help to continue the conversation.

If you would like to know more about our proposals, and to be notified when the new book is available, please subscribe to our mailing list here.

With sincere thanks for your interest

Sir Geoffrey Palmer and Dr Andrew Butler
